Objective
Measurement and quality management are an integral part of the workshop manufacturing. You learn the basic knowledge and capabilities of measuring and you can use the most common workshop measuring devices so that the factors which cause measuring uncertainty are considered. Your competence is growing in understanding the quality as part of normal work. The students get to know the basic quality engineering thinking. After you have passed the course, you will become familiar with the basic thinking of quality engineering.

You know the basics of measuring´s in mechanical workshops: you can use the most common workshop measuring devices so that the factors which cause measuring uncertainty are considered. You understand the basic quality engineering thinking: quality definition, continuous improvement, ISO9000-standards idea.
Investigations and information retrieval:
You can select and use suitable measuring equipment to solve measuring problems.
Engineering practice:
You can calculate the most common measuring errors from your own measuring which you have make in the laboratory. You can analyse the results and make conclusions.

Handling powers and roots, reducing expressions, application of right and oblique triangle trigonometry, solving first degree polynomial and pairs and sets of equations. SI system of units, conversion of units, quantity calculation
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Assessment consists of exam 80% and learning assignments 20%.
Sufficient (1): You identify the basic knowledge and terminology but in the interpreting of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate. You can satisfactorily solve simple measuring problems and indentify satisfactory the quality principles.
Satisfactory (2): You are familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but in the application of the essential concepts the skills are still inadequate. You can satisfactorily solve unusual measuring problems and also recognize the quality principles.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Good (3): You master the essential knowledge and skills of the course. You:
- are familiar with the basic measuring methods in an engineering workshop and can make well-founded choices comprehensively
- can use the most common measuring devices of an engineering workshop taking into consideration the main factors causing measuring uncertainty
- are familiar with the main factors causing measuring uncertainty
- can define combined measuring errors in more complicated situations
- know the basic quality technology thinking
Very good (4): You master the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner when solving measuring problems e.g. related to laboratory work and when applying some of the quality principles to practice.

Free-form anonymous feedback is collected in the middle of the course.
The implementation of the course is based on contact and distance learning (videos). During the course, students make learning assignments, which are returned as agreed. The course includes laboratory works.

The implementation of the course is based on contact and distance learning. During the course, students work in groups on three assessed learning assignments, which are returned in writing. In addition, written assignments or returnable exercises to the online learning environment are performed independently. The course includes one laboratory day.

Exam in the last contact teaching session of the course. Two replays: the first in January 2024, the second in February 2024.
