Objective

Purpose of the course
In this course, you will learn the basics of legislation related to mental health and substance abuse services, familiarise yourself with the service chains that provide mental health abuse and crisis services, and familiarise yourself with clients’ guidance processes.

Objectives
After completing this course, you have learned to reflect on your own values and attitudes towards mental health disorders and substance abuse issues. You understand the diversity of the phenomena and issues of substance abuse and mental health. You are familiar with substance abuse and mental health services and the legislation governing them. You have practised bringing up the subject
and you know how to utilise the principles of motivating discussion in client guidance. You also recognise the stages of a crisis and know how to support your client in coping with the crisis

Qualifications

The student has an overall view of the service system in the social services and health care sector. They can name factors affecting well-being and health.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate 1. You can describe the diversity of substance abuse and mental health disorders and the stages of crisis work as a biopsychosocial phenomenon
You will produce a written presentation in accordance with the JAMK guidelines.

Satisfactory 2. You can describe the diversity of substance abuse and mental health disorders and the stages of crisis work as a biopsychosocial phenomenon from both the perspective of the client and a loved one.
You provide examples of substance abuse, mental health and crisis services
You can name legislation concerning their production and organisation.
You assess your strengths and development needs in motivating and bringing up matters
You assess your attitudes and values towards substance abuse and mental health disorders, rehabilitees and their families and friends.
You will produce a written presentation in accordance with the JAMK guidelines.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You describe the possibilities of applying research and experience knowledge in the development of mental health, substance abuse and crisis services and in your own work.

You can create an overall picture of current mental health and crisis services and analyse the legislation on their production and organisation.
You assess your strengths and development needs in motivating and bringing up matters.
You reflect your attitudes and values in relation to substance abuse and mental health disorders, rehabilitees and their families and friends in a diverse manner.
