Objective

Purpose of the course
In this course you will learn to enable occupation and participation of working age and elderly clients. Compensation can be used in occupational therapy in order to enable clients occupation and participation. Teaching and guiding can be used in order to strengthen skills and body functions needed in occupations. Meaningful and purposeful activities are used in occupational therapy. These activities are analyzed and adapted to be used goal directed. Chosen methods are used based on good practices and research evidence. You will learn aspects of neuropsychology from the point of view of the occupational therapy client.

You are able to recognize the key problems of occupation especially among those of working age and the elderly (e.g. mental health, stroke, progressive illnesses). You can explain the challenges in occupation and participation experienced by the client and observed by the therapist. You understand and describe compensation, skill acquisition, restoration and teaching as the main methods in occupational therapy in order to support and enable client occupation, experience and participation. You can choose, combine and adapt different intervention procedures in order to enable and enhance client´s occupation. You base your choices in research evidence, occupational therapy theory and models, as well as occupational performance analysis.

Content

In this course you study the typical occupational challenges related to working age and senior clients as well as the aspects affecting client factors, environments and occupation. You will get to know occupational therapy theories and evidence based models and approaches. This course focuses on occupation based skills training and client factors restoration. You will learn how to adapt occupations according to the goals of the client. You will learn basics of neuropsychology.

You will learn aspects of neuropsychology from the point of view of the occupational therapy client.

You are able to recognize the key problems of occupation especially among those of working age and the elderly (e.g. mental health, stroke, progressive illnesses). You can explain the challenges in occupation and participation experienced by the client and observed by the therapist. You understand and describe compensation, skill acquisition, restoration and teaching as the main methods in occupational therapy in order to support and enable client occupation, experience and participation. You can choose, combine and adapt different intervention procedures in order to enable and enhance client´s occupation. You base your choices in research evidence, occupational therapy theory and models, as well as occupational performance analysis.

Content

In this course you study the typical occupational challenges related to working age and senior clients as well as the aspects affecting client factors, environments and occupation. You will get to know occupational therapy theories and evidence based models and approaches. This course focuses on occupation based skills training and client factors restoration. You will learn how to adapt occupations according to the goals of the client. You will learn basics of neuropsychology.
