Objective

On completion of this module, students will:
• Understand how different organisations involved in the music and media industry interrelate, on a national and global level
• Have an appreciation for the various concerns and priorities for these different groups
• Gain an understanding of key specialist terms used by those involved in the music and media industries

Content

The module will cover the following areas:
• The roles, aims and interrelated structures of various Music and Media Industry organisations, including record labels, music publishers, production companies, broadcasters, representative organisations, collection societies, artists and songwriters, and other associated parties
• The roles and structures of the various sectors and functions contained more broadly within the entertainment, music and media industries, such as artist management, retail and distribution, agency, copyright control, publishing, production, the live performance industry, etc
• An examination of current issues relevant to the music and media industries.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

o excellent (5) students show an excellent understanding of the key issues and their work is very well-produced
o good (3-4) students understand the main processes and concepts and their work is of a reasonable standard
o satisfactory (1-2) students gain and demonstrate enough knowledge to pass the course
