Objective

The students understand the basis and potential of the development of the overall efficiency and capacity of a production system. They have a basic understanding of the requirements of the integration of production and maintenance organisations in view of maintenance. They know the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) principles and are able to apply them to practice. They also master the various applications of the actual TPM Process, e.g. end-user maintenance, and are able to develop them. They are able to perceive the needs and possibilities to combine TPM and other maintenance concepts.

Content

Operation models of maintenance and ERP. Organisation of maintenance. Central phases of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). End-user maintenance. 5S in view of maintenance. Integration of TPM with the maintenance concepts. Measurement of the success of productive maintenance.

Qualifications

The students understand the significance and role of maintenance for maintaining the production capacity of a production plant or similar facility. They understand the contents and significance of various maintenance strategies and recognise the most common methods behind these strategies. They are able to apply reliability technology methods to develop the operational reliability and maintenance of a system.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills required to get the grade Good (3) and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to the solution of a development problem.
Good (3): The student masters, in addition to the basic knowledge mentioned below, the following and also the implementation of them:
- planning and completion of a TMP project
- implementation of the operator driven reliability.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student masters the basic knowledge and skills covered by the course:
- operation models and resource planning related to maintenance
- the most important stages of the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
- basics of the operator driven reliability
- measuring principles of the overall system performance.
