Objective
The students are familiar with the points of departure in musical development and education of 6-8 year old children. They understand the significance of general and musical development as basis for teaching planning and implementation. They can use Orff/ and marimba-like instruments, five string kantele and recorder (arrangements) as well as diverse music education work habits and methods in planning and implementing music teaching for the age group mentioned above. They evaluate their own abilities and those of their peers in a constructive and realistic manner.
Content
Goal conscious musical education of 6 to 8-year-old children:
- general/musical development
- musical/general goals in teaching - planning which takes into account the age and development level (diverse work habits/methods)
- instrumental group teaching: Orff/marimba-like instruments, five string kantele and recorder/ goal oriented instrumental teaching
- familiarisation with material for instrumental and theory elemental teaching
Diverse age students, for instance instrumental groups, senior groups, special case groups, many-cultural groups.
Collegiate work (mixed faculties in yearly courses).
Qualifications
The students are familiar with the elemental facts of music education, with early-age music education's contents, work habits and goals. The students are familiar with the points of departure in the music education of 3-5 years old children; they understand the meaning of general and musical development as basis for planning of musical activities and their implementation. They are able to use, apply and develop diverse work habits and methods in the planning and implementation of musical activities for the above mentioned age groups. They understand the significance of study plans as basis for teaching. They have the readiness for developing reflective teaching and understand the principles of portfolio work.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Excellent (5) The students show excellent acquaintance with all the aspects related to the musical education of children between 6-8 years of age. This manifests itself in their lessons and conversations about the topic. They are able to adapt the orff method to several instruments and use them in their work. The students show maturity in evaluation and development during demonstrations and exercises. They can work excellently as individuals and members of a group.
Praiseworthy (4): The students are able to function in a praiseworthy manner in all things concerned with the issues mentioned above.
Good (3): The students show command of the basics in music education for children 6-8 years of age. Their performance in the above mentioned issues can be considered good.
Satisfactory (2): The students understand the basics in this course's contents but the personal input in lessons and conversations leaves much to be desired. They show lack of self-assurance in their activity. Their self-evaluation skills are superficial.
Pass (1): The students show acquaintance with the course's content as mentioned above but their whole approach betrays superficiality and lack of self-assurance.
