Objective

Four-part harmony and counterpoint 2:
The students can write from single to many-voice textures in the styles from Romanticism to the present day in homophonic and contrapunctal styles.

Arrangement.
The students are familiar with the physical chcaracteristics of sound. They know the main instruments and their characteristics and use in diverse ensembles. They have the basic skills to write transcriptions and many-sided arrangements for diverse ensembles.

Content

Four-part harmony and counterpoint 2:
Western Music structures, counterpoint, and harmonisation as melodic complements. Divided in two parts: a) Romantic harmony and b) 20th Century's harmonic means.

Arranging:
The physical characteristics of sound and knowledge of the main instruments and their use in diverse ensembles.

Arrangements sample work:
- children or female choir (2 and 3 voices)
- mixed choir (3 and/or 4 voices9
- orquestration for strings, woodwinds and brass.
-transcription of a piano work for string orchestra
-Own arrangement for several heterogeneous ensembles

Qualifications

Four-part harmony and counterpoint 2:
Music writing 1 (KMZM0104)or corresponding tested knowledge

Arrangement: The students have the basic readiness to read and write music.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent 5
The students have fairly developed knowledge and skills. They also know how to apply them fluently and creatively. They are able to write fluently in exceptional and problematic harmonic and contrapunctal situations.

Praiseworthly 4
The students have a view of how the written text should sound and the means of achiving this. The students can also share their knowledge and skills when necessary.

Good 3
The students command, as a whole, music writing in different styles. They know how to apply their knowledge and skills in different situations fluently.

Satisfactory 2
The students command the basics of harmony and counterpoint. They are able to write using both main techniques, remaining within a stylistic period.

Passing 1
The students participate in lessons and complete their assignments.

Fail 0
This grade is given when the minimal requirements are not achieved

Arranging:
The evaluation of arranging is made on the basis of samples.

Excellent 5
The students command the techniques of arrangement, possess special techniques and comprehend broad wholes. They are able to develop solutions for special problems.They are able to use different channels of information creatively.

Praiseworthy 4
Many-sided control of skills needed in arranging. Application in work of diverse techniques many-sidedly and development of own solutions to problems. Personal initiative is used in acquisition of knowledge and skills.

Good 3
The students command the necessary skills of arranging. They can apply different techniques in their work.

Satisfactory 2
The students command the basics of arranging, but demanding tasks completion is challenging.

Passing 1
The students do not command the basics of arranging fully, and tasks completion of assignments is challenging.

Fail 0
The students don't achieve the minimal goals
