Objective

The students understand the significance of product design operations in business activities. They understand and know the phases of a product design process from a customer’s need to a product document. The students know different project management tools and practices. They know how to use creative working methods in ideation and problem solving. The students know the different ways of product protection.

Qualifications

The students have the basic knowledge of the strength of materials and they can perform the static sizing of simple structures with the help of manuals and sizing table cases. The students know the most common machine parts and their connections and they know the basic principles of sizing and choosing machine parts. The students have the basic knowledge of material technology and they know the different groups of materials, their properties and their most common uses in technical applications. The students are able to make workshop- and assembly drawings and they master the 3D modelling and making workshop drawings from a 3D model.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills required to get the grade Good (3) and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner.
Good (3): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills also in more complicated situations:
The student understands the significance of the product development and innovation process among the other processes in a company.
The student understands and is familiar with different types of product development processes and their progress from a product idea to a finished product in the market.
The student masters the basic project management tools and can implement them in a project.
The student can utilize creative working methods in the innovation and solution of practical problems.
The student can choose the right product protection methods of immaterial rights.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but in practical applications the skills are inadequate.

Assessment is based on the exam and assignments and continuous assessment.
