Objective
The students understand the significance of condition and operation monitoring as a part of an effective and productive maintenance operation. The students know the principles of the most typical condition monitoring methods and they can apply them in the condition monitoring of machines. The students can plan and perform vibration measurements and they are able to analyze measuring results and make conclusions on their basis from the condition of a machine. The students master basically the condition and operation monitoring systems used in paper making industry and they can exploit the information found in them in maintenance decision making.
Content
Definitions and concepts of condition monitoring.
The most typical condition monitoring methods of paper making industry and their operation applications. Basics of measurement and sensor technological vibration measurements and also basics of signal processing. Analysis of vibration measurements and fault diagnostics. Condition monitoring methods of lubrication and hydraulics oils. Basics of thermography. Development scenarios of condition monitoring.
Qualifications
The students understand the significance and role of the maintenance of a production plant or equivalent as the bearer of production efficiency. They know the content and significance of different maintenance strategies and they recognize the most typical methods behind these strategies. The students understand the operations management principles of maintenance and they perceive the most important themes of life cycle thinking.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Very good (4-5): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills required to get the grade Good (3) and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner when solving a development problem.
Good (3): In addition to the basic knowledge and skills the student masters the following and is also able to apply the knowledge acquired:
- Fault diagnostics of vibration measurements
Satisfactory (1-2): The student masters the basic knowledge and skills covered by the course.
- Condition monitoring methods
- Basic concepts and techniques of vibration measurements
- Principles how to analyze the results of vibration measurements
- Basics of oil condition monitoring
- Basic use of machinery condition monitoring and runnability analyses.
