Objective
The students understand the significance of the major industrial processes for the overall energy efficiency of an industrial plant. They also understand the effect of technical and economic conditions on energy efficiency and thereby consider energy efficiency from a wide perspective.
Content
Definitions of energy efficiency and types of energy
Instruments for measuring energy efficiency and their use
Major industrial sub-processes and their energy efficiency
Calculation of energy efficiency potential
Economic impacts of energy efficiency (investments and payback periods)
Qualifications
The students understand the basic thermodynamic theory and its structure and concepts, and the basics of the major flow and heat power processes. They are also familiar with basic electrical safety principles. They understand the structure and operation of a process control system. They are able to carry out measurement of electrical quantities with standard measuring instruments.
