Objective

The students are able to plan, implement and assess public health nursing in a resource-based and family-oriented manner, applying evidence-based working methods of health promotion in promoting the health of the individual, the family, groups, the community and the population. They have mastered the planning and implementation of family counselling and breastfeeding support as a public health nurse’s working methods that improve the health and well-being of the family. The students are able to apply the working method of early interaction to support fatherhood and parenting, to reinforce the parents’ self-confidence and to help the parents to resolve parenting challenges. The students recognize different types of families, their needs, and situations where the child’s healthy physical or psychosocial development is at risk, and are able to guide customers to individual services. They know how to apply various participatory methods and methods enabling peer support in public health nursing of families, and they are able to draw on multidisciplinary and professional cooperation networks. They become practised at assessing the suitability of various working methods of health promotion in customer work and their effectiveness. The students master the vaccination programme for customers of different ages and giving vaccinations as a public health nurse’s working method.

Comprehensive health check (pregnant woman and her family, child, school-age child and the family)

Qualifications

The students master the key concepts and methods related to public health problems, family nursing and social and health care sector customer relationships and setting as well as goals and methods of health promotion and preventive nursing, and they are familiar with the basics of evidence-based decision-making.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5)
The student:
Demonstrates extensive and versatile skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive health checks, vaccinating people in different age groups, breastfeeding counselling, supporting early interaction and family counselling.
Demonstrates an extensive and versatile command of the knowledge base for the aforementioned methods in public health nursing.
Reflects upon their choices in learning assignments critically and analytically, drawing on relevant and evidence-based multidisciplinary knowledge in a versatile manner.
Is able to assess capabilities critically and suggest development ideas, demonstrating creative thinking.
Very good (4)
The student:
Demonstrates highly versatile skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive health checks, vaccinating people in different age groups, breastfeeding counselling, supporting early interaction and family counselling.
Demonstrates an extensive and versatile command of a multidisciplinary knowledge base for the aforementioned methods of public health nursing.
Reflects upon their choices in learning assignments critically and analytically, drawing on relevant and evidence-based multidisciplinary knowledge in a versatile manner.
Is are able to assess capabilities critically and to suggest development ideas.
