Objective
The students have capabilities for assuming responsibility for preventing the most common mental health problems and addiction-related illnesses, guidance to treatment, referrals to examinations, and the implementation, monitoring and coordination of treatment in cooperation with patients and their families following a plan drawn up with a multiprofessional team. They have capabilities for recognizing crisis patients and helping them through the methods of nursing. The students are able to ensure the continuity of treatment and communication in the treatment and service package and in coping at home.
Content
Mental health promotion, aetiology, risk factors, early recognition, treatment and rehabilitation of mental health problems and addiction-related illnesses; crises and traumas in the life cycle, personal values and attitudes in mental health, addiction and crisis nursing, support for decision-making (national and regional treatment programmes, recommendations and legislation, key social and health care service and information systems, evidence-based nursing in mental health, addiction and crisis nursing,cooperation skills and the phenomena of interaction, special issues of mental health and addiction nursing (including ethical questions, stigmatisation, attitudes, exclusion and the chain of generations, patient security, psychiatry and addiction medicine, multiprofessionalism and network centredness,
Qualifications
The students master basic knowledge, key concepts and methods of social and health care sector customer relationships and setting as well as goals and methods of guidance, health promotion and preventive nursing, and they are familiar with the basic premises of evidence-based decision-making.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students have:
Excellent(5): extensive knowledge of decision-making and early recognition related to the most common mental health problems, crisis and addiction-related illnesses as well as of evidence-based planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s comprehensive treatment. The students are able to explain and justify in a versatile manner the aetiology and risk factors of the most common mental health problems and addiction-related illnesses. In learning assignments, the students demonstrate in-depth reflection on and comparison and evaluation of information from different perspectives, drawing on relevant and evidence-based diverse knowledge. The student comply with the JAMK reporting instructions.
Very good(4):extensive knowledge of decision-making and early recognition related to the most common mental health problems, crisis and addiction-related illnesses as well as of evidence-based planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient’s comprehensive treatment. The students are able to explain and justify the aetiology and risk factors of the most common mental health problems and addiction-related illnesses. In learning assignments, the students analyse and combine information, bringing up different perspectives and comparing their differences and similarities.
