Objective
The students know the service systems of mental health and addiction nursing, as well as related multi-professional expert networks. They know the factors affecting mental health, addictive behaviour, and crises, and understand their significance for preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative mental health and addiction work. They recognize mental health disorders, patients’ crises and problems of addiction clients, as well as the changes caused by mental illness and intoxicant abuse. They are able to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care as members of a team. They are able to use the interventions of mental health, addiction and crisis nursing based on a cooperative relationship. They can take into account the characteristics of mental health, crisis and addiction work when encountering clients/patients, and are aware of the significance of client-oriented nursing principles in nursing practice. They are familiar with mental health promotion practices. They know the basics of mentoring. The students form their own view of entrepreneurship and they are able to use international sources in acquisition of information. They are able to act in a way which promotes the understanding of diversity and tolerance in society.

Mental health promotion methods.
Recognition of mental health, intoxicant abuse, crises and disorders, and referral to treatment.
The planning, implementation and evaluation of care for depressed, suicidal and psychotic patients and addiction clients.
Encountering clients in crisis.
The nursing interventions used in mental health, addiction and crisis work. Cooperation relationship and related phenomena.
Methods of motivating interview and mini-intervention.
The basics of mentoring.
Working as a member of nursing team, nurse’s responsibility and duties.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Excellent (5): The student has mastered the knowledge base of clinical nursing practice and is able to examine it in a versatile manner, giving justifications and from various perspectives. The student is able to apply the skills he/she has acquired and demonstrated to innovatively solve problems in nursing practice. The student is able to draw on his/her wide-ranging clinical knowledge base in a versatile manner in written assignments. He/she is motivated to independently acquire information and to make critical use of it.
Very good (4): The student has mastered the knowledge base of clinical nursing practice and is able to examine it. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge to implementing medical treatment in clinical nursing practice and is motivated in this. The student has a wide-ranging basic knowledge, and he/she is able to draw on of his/her knowledge to solve various problems in nursing practice. He/she is motivated to independently acquire information.
Good (3): He/she has mastered the basics of medical treatment and aseptic principles and is partly able to draw on the knowledge he/she has learnt, and he/she understands their significance in nursing practice.
Satisfactory (2): The student is familiar with the structure and functioning of the human musculoskeletal, circulatory and respiratory system. He/she is familiar with pathology, medical treatment, pharmaceutical calculation, basics of aseptic techniques, microbiology and basics of preventing the spread of infections as well as the defense mechanisms of the body. The student understands a nurse's ethical, judicial and aseptic responsibilities in medical treatment.
Adequate (1): The student has mastered basic mathematics and is able to perform pharmaceutical calculations correctly. The student has basic clinical knowledge and is able to acquire information independently and with initiative.
Fail (0): The student has not mastered the basic knowledge of his/her field, nor does he/she have the skills to solve problems encountered in the field. The student does not have the skills to solve problems in his/her field, especially in unexpected situations. The student does not demonstrate an ability to assume his/her share of responsibility for professional assignments and projects.
