Objective

The student
• knows the concepts of gerontological nursing, its objectives and operational environments, and the special characteristics of elderly people
• knows the methods used for assessing the functional ability of the elderly
• recognizes the ethical principles of gerontological nursing and the special characteristics related to encountering elderly individuals
• knows the significance of multiprofessional cooperation and social networks for the wellbeing of the elderly
• knows the activities of living and their contents in accordance with the classification of nursing interventions and needs
• masters the theoretical base of the main nursing interventions and the monitoring, assistance and maintenance of vital functions
• knows how to respond to the activities of living with the means of nursing
• understands the significance of nursing promoting health and functional ability for the care of the elderly
•is able to cooperate with clients from different cultural background and adopts an entrepreneurial attitude

The objectives, settings and ethical questions of gerontological nursing
Physical, psychological and social ageing

Excellent(5)–Very good(4)KNOWLEDGE: The student has mastered the knowledge base of gerontological nursing practice and is able to examine it in a versatile manner from various perspectives. He/she is able to use up-to-date information and communication technology to acquire, edit, produce and communicate gerontological information. He/she is able to use and present information in communication and interactive situations clearly and in a structured and instructive manner. SKILLS: The student has good skills in gerontological nursing practice, which he/she is able to draw on in a versatile manner in various situations. He/she knows how he/she should develop his/her skills in the future from the perspective of his/her own competence and the development of gerontological nursing practice. The student demonstrates skills above the basic requirements of his/her current stage of studies and continuously improving competence in gerontological nursing practice. GENERAL COMPETENCE: The student enthusiastically and constructively embraces responsibility for promoting an aged customer's health, ability to function and wellbeing and is motivated to develop gerontological nursing practice. He/she is able to act ethically and in an entrepreneurial spirit when planning and organising the response to an aged customer's individual and comprehensive needs. He/she works interactively and constructively in his/her community and develops gerontological nursing practice.
Good (3): KNOWLEDGE: The student is familiar with the knowledge base of gerontological nursing practice. He/she is motivated to acquire information independently and showing initiative. The student is able to apply the information he/she has acquired and justify its use from various perspectives. He/she is able to present gerontological information clearly and in a structured manner in interactive situations. SKILLS: The student has good skills in gerontological nursing practice, especially as regards comprehensively responding to an aged customer's individual needs. He/she is able to assess his/her own improving skills in relation to the competence requirements of gerontological nursing practice. He/she has enthusiasm and motivation to improve his/her skills. GENERAL COMPETENCE: The student is motivated and shows initiative in assuming responsibility for promoting an aged customer's health, ability to function and wellbeing. He/she is able to take into consideration in a versatile manner in his/her actions the special features of encountering an aged customer and the ethical principles of gerontological nursing practice. He/she is able to plan, organise and continuously improve his/her own activities in responding to the individual needs of an aged customer. He/she takes into consideration the significance of multiprofessional cooperation in supporting the wellbeing of an aged customer.
Satisfactory 2– Adequate 1 KNOWLEDGE: The student is familiar with the basic knowledge and most central information sources of gerontological nursing practice. He/she is able to acquire information, learn and develop his/her learning techniques in the area of gerontological nursing practice. He/she is able to assess gerontological information from various perspectives. SKILLS: The student has basic skills in gerontological nursing practice, especially as regards responding to the basic needs of an aged customer. The student is motivated to cope with the basic professional assignments of gerontological nursing practice. GENERAL COMPETENCE: The student has basic skills in gerontological nursing practice especially as regards responding to the basic needs of an aged customer. Fail: The minimum requirements of the degree (EQF 6) are not met.
