Objective

The students understand the group behaviour of individuals, know the different phenomena of group dynamics, the roles of group members and interaction relationships in a group. They know the principles of assessing, observing and guiding an occupational therapy group and exploit their own persona in the work. The students know different ways of group guidance. The students know the different kind of groups and is able to apply occupational therapy principles in them. Students can analyse and use activities and physical exercise in a group taking into consideration the interests and objectives of customers.

Content

Phenomena of group dynamics. Principles of assessing, observing and guiding an occupational therapy group. Using activities in a therapeutic group. Applying the models of occupational therapy in groups. Caring actors in a group. Dealing with opposition in a group. Exploiting physical exercise in an occupational therapy group.

Qualifications

The students understand the basic concepts and values of occupational therapy. They have an idea about the work of occupational therapists.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment criteria
Advanced expert (4-5):
The student has advanced skills in implementing and developing occupational therapy for groups. He/she critically examines information, theories and principles of the field, showing that he/she has understood these. The student is able to apply the latest international research data to support his/her decisions. The student is able to solve unexpected problems and demonstrates an ability to formulate new perspectives to a theme. The student has mastered the tasks of occupational therapy in the area of group activities. He/she is able to assess his/her competence and the skills he/she has acquired comprehensively, critically and instructively. The student shows initiative in assuming responsibility for tasks assigned to him/her, demonstrating an instructive and entrepreneurial work approach. The student works with the group skilfully, observing the principles of client-orientedness. The student demonstrates his/her competence in a constructive, enthusiastic and expert manner.

Student with basic skills (1-2)
The student has basic skills in implementing and developing occupational therapy for groups. He/she is familiar with information, theories and principles relevant to the theme, and has an ability to apply them within the framework of the course. The student finds coping with more demanding assignments a challenge. He/she assumes his/her share of responsibility for assignments. The student is able to work together with others in a group. The student's competence appears restricted and the justifications are limited, and his/her ability to apply knowledge remains unclear.

Fail:
The student does not demonstrate a mastery of the basic skills in implementing occupational therapy for groups. He/she cannot cope with the course assignments or will not assume responsibility for them. He/she fails to work with the group. The student's ability to apply knowledge remains unclear.
