Objective
The students have basic knowledge on possibilities offered by IT in supporting the growth, development and learning of children and youth. They know the principles of media education. They can support the opportunities of children or youth in need of special support to use IT to support their development and rehabilitation. The students become motivated to develop the possibilities of IT when working with children and youth.
Content
Along with virtual studies, the students become familiar with the possibilities of IT in early childhood education and in the care, guidance and rehabilitation of children and youngsters who need special support. He/she knows the basic principles of media education.The students can guide and support children and youngsters in the use of the internet. They become familiar with computer software and games that support the development of children and youth, with assistive devices that ease the use of IT as well as with various information sources on the internet. The students know communication methods and software that exploit IT and support and replace language development and speech.
Qualifications
The students know the basics of computer and internet use. They know the basics of the growth, development and learning of children and youngsters.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
o excellent (5): the students are active in the virtual learning environment and complete discussions and learning assignments in an excellent manner in the virtual learning environment. In written assignments, they show ability to describe and justify the phenomena of the topic critically through their own thinking and by exploiting sources properly and in a versatile manner. The students follow the instructions of JUAS for written assignments.
o good (3-4): the students complete discussions and learning assignments in the virtual learning environment well. In written assignments, they show ability to describe and justify the phenomena of the topic critically through their own thinking and by exploiting sources properly and in a versatile manner. The students follow the instructions of JUAS for written assignments.
o satisfactory (1-2): the students have contributed little to the discussion in the virtual learning environment. The students have completed the agreed assignments. In written assignments, they describe the phenomena of the topic without justifying them and using only some source material (i.e. one book and one web source). The students partially follow the instructions of JUAS for written assignments.
