Objective
In cooperation with other professionals, the students can apply and develop the methods of special education to support the development and everyday coping of children and youth in need of special support. They have learnt to promote health and know the main nursing methods and clinical interventions. They can apply the methods of case management and social work with families to holistically support children and youth with special support needs, as well as their families. They base their work on empowerment-orientation, ecoculture and community spirit. They work recognising their own value basis and by following the ethical principles of their profession.
Content
Practical training in the units of social and health care or education, for example, in children’s day care, special needs education, case management, welfare work.

Qualifications
The students master the basics of special education. They know the basics of children's motor, cognitive, linguistic and social development and related disorders. They master the main nursing methods and clinical interventions. The students are acquainted with the services offered to children and youth in need of special support, as well as to their families, related legislation, and the methods of case management and social work with families.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Assessment by the employer's practice supervisor and by the supervising teacher; self-assessment.

WORKPLACE INTERACTION SKILLS
The students work in an empowering and responsible manner in client relationships, are able to interact both with clients and colleagues. They are active and responsible in the workplace community and with interest groups.
KNOWLEDGE OF WORK METHODS
The students find information actively and critically and can apply the professional theory of the field. They apply work methods and processes and exploit assistive devices and materials. The students justify their opinions and ways of operating also using professional ethics.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SKILLS
The students can assess, plan and develop their own and their work community's operations. They are able to think critically in relation to their own professional development and to work development.
