Basics of Equipment EngineeringLaajuus (5 cr)
Course unit code: TLTM458A
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
- Teaching language
- Finnish
Objective
The students understand that equipment engineering is based on performance characteristics, and that it is possible to calculate and determine the required properties of equipment and its parts on the basis of the performance characteristics. The students are able to determine the performance characteristics required of the components of a simple piece of equipment, and they understand the grounds on which the dimensioning of equipment and the choice of materials is based. They are able to draw up a preliminary plan and determine basic dimensioning for the equipment dealt with during the course.
Content
Basics of Mechanics of Materials.
Application of previous studies to equipment engineering Determination of the performance characteristics Determination of the properties of the structures, parts and components of a piece of equipment on the basis of performance characteristics The knowledge and skills acquired in the previous studies are applied in the work. New contents include basics of hydraulics, with the dimensioning of the engine parts in question. The contents of the basics of hydraulics consist of the basic components and dimensioning of a hydraulic system. Examples of the dimensioning of engine parts include a screw, belt transmission and similar dimensioning methods. The design assignment contains interesting structures. The design assignment also contains the use of suitable engineering software, such as Autocad and Mathcad.
