Objective

The students are familiar with the operating principles of the paper making process from the pulping process to finishing, and they are able to plan process controls with system manufacturers' tools. They are able to read descriptions of the paper making process and functional block graphs of automation systems, and to make alterations to them. They are able to design sequential controls for an automation laboratory water process.

Content

Automation in the paper making process: the pulping process, paper machine wet end controls, short circulation, dry end controls, paper finishing by coating, supercalendering, slitting, and handling of small rolls. Quality measurement adjustments and special measurements. The course also includes laboratory work with automation laboratory equipment and software.
