Intellectual Property Law and Contract Law (5cr)

Objective

On completion of this module, students should:
• Understand and be able to apply international laws regarding intellectual property and music and media industry agreements
• Understand and be able to apply contract law to music- and media-industry specific scenarios

Content

The module will cover the following areas:
• Contract Law: Basis of contract law and various music industry agreements.
• Intellectual Property: Copyright, Patents, Performers Rights, Trade Marks and Passing Off, Design Rights. The main focus will be on copyright however.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

o excellent (5) students show an excellent understanding of the key issues and their work is very well-produced
o good (3-4) students understand the main processes and concepts and their work is of a reasonable standard
o satisfactory (1-2) students gain and demonstrate enough knowledge to pass the course
