Objective

The students command the acoustic guitar's, small kantele's and percussion instruments' basics to such extent that they are able to use them in teaching. They are acquainted with Finnish folk music through playing and singing.

Content

The basics of acoustic guitar as an accompanying instrument (main accompanying patterns, plucking styles and chord shorthand).
Five string kantele chord accompanying patterns and plucking styles, melodic playing. Traditional and new playing styles and techniques.
The Kalevala singing and musical traditions, and folk music playing basics.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Participation in instrument lessons (absences to be made out)and satisfactory completion of assignments.

The students give evidence of having learned acoustic guitar, small kantele and percussion instruments basics by attending the instrument lessons, completing the assignments and performing in the final performance(individually or as part of a group). They are able to apply what was learned in the learning situations.

The students are able to work responsibly following the guidance given and are considerate to others.
