Introduction to Music Education (3cr)

Objective

The students have formed a preliminary idea of music education and its significance. They are aware of the development process of a musical ego as part of music education, as well as of how music can be used to support personal growth towards integrity. They have started familiarization with pedagogic thinking and encounters with different student types and instructional situations in the field of music. They are motivated to study the topic more profoundly.

Content

The sectors of music education and the arguments on its significance for the individual and society. Music education in the Finnish educational system. Central features of education and instructional situations within the music field. Diverse learners.
