Objective

The students are able to analyze by ear pop/jazz music forms and structures. They are able to take dictation of challenging melodies, rhythms and harmonies. The students command triple based rhythms.

Content

Analytical listening of pop/jazz music of diverse styles, figuring out chords, scale recognition, recognition of demanding structures by ear. Changing beats and dictate of many voices.

Qualifications

The students are familiar with popular music's harmonic and melodic basic concepts, recognizing them by ear, singing them and writing them. They command 7th chords and their symbols.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Praiseworthy 4 - Excellent 5

The students comprehend the solfege techniques in pop/jazz styles. They command by ear rhythmic, melodic, harmonic and formal structure analysis. The students are able to impart knowledge if need be.

Good 3

The students are able to figure out by ear pop/jazz music's rhythmic, melodic, harmonic and structure related features. They command the main stylistic trends in pop/jazz and are familiar with their main composers and works.

Passable 1 - Satisfactory 2

The students are able to figure out by ear and to name pop/jazz music's main elements. They command the special terminology of the field, take part in contact teaching and are able to complete assignments satisfactorily.

Fail 0

The course is failed when the minimal requirements are not met.
