Objective
The students apply the methods of gerontological nursing, the promotion of health and functional ability and prevention of disabilities in the care for the elderly and nursing in a home-like setting.

Qualifications
The students master the evaluation and observation of vital functions and key assistance methods in nursing. They are able to plan, implement and evaluate the nursing of a patient/customer affected by a public health problem and implement individual and group counselling. They have knowledge related to the care of and the promotion of health and functional ability in the elderly as well as to the prevention of illnesses and disabilities.

Pass (S)
 Student: 
 Act ethically, respecting an elderly person’s autonomy and integrity
 Are able to apply the principles of patient safety in the customer’s home and in home care
 With a supervisor’s support and together with the customer, plan, implement and evaluate the customer's care and services, drawing on their evidence-based knowledge of gerontology and geriatrics. 
 Are able to draw up a treatment and service plan and make entries following the documentation principles
 Implement customer-oriented nursing that promotes functional ability following a treatment and service plan.
 Are skilled in key home care procedures and the safe use of implements
 Implement, evaluate and guide safe drug therapy together with the customer
 Implement a work approach that focuses on service coordination
 Demonstrate an ability to make independent decisions by drawing up a plan for promoting health and functional ability; assess the customer’s health and functional ability using valid indicators, recognize risks of disabilities and environmental risks and suggest prevention methods 
 Work with initiative in cooperation with a home care team and the customer's family as well as with other actors taking part in providing treatment and services
 Are able to plan and organise their work following the work community rules 
 Assess their own actions and those of the work community critically, suggest development targets for both
