Objective

The students are able to analyse the concepts of health, functional ability, health education, and health promotion. They are able to collect information on the factors influencing health, health behaviour, and the needs for health promotion at various stages of the life cycle. The students understand the significance of an empowering approach to the health promotion of individuals, families and communities. They also know the social strategies and policies of health promotion applied at the level of individuals and communities.

Content

The concepts of health promotion, health and functional ability, and their comprehensive and multi-dimensional nature. The theoretical basis of health promotion. The operating fields, levels and settings of health promotion. Empowerment in health promotion and the approaches to health promotion. Philosophical and ethical questions of health promotion. The preconditions for health and functional ability at various stages of life, and their evaluation and measurement. National and local health policy programmes regarding health promotion at various organizational levels.
