Objective
The students know the basics of paper manufacture, including its middle products, from fibre separation to paper, as well as the methods of operation control and quality control.
Content
Wood structure and its examination, the chemical composition of wood (fibre preparations etc.); pulp manufacture theory: ground pulp, refined mechanical pulp, chemical pulp, and recycled pulp, including the chemistry of pulping and bleaching; the secondary products of pulp industry, paper manufacture theory, the examination of factors affecting paper. Beating, paper additives and fillers, colours, sizing, and factors affecting these. The use and quality control of pulps and paper: drainability, optical properties, strengths, and related measuring devices: schopper, freeness, elrepho, tear, burst, draw, roughness, thickness, air permeance, etc.
