Content

"Inclusion and diversity in sports” is a multidimensional 5 ECTS course at EQF Level 7 that delves into the significance of diversity and inclusion within the realm of sports and physical activity. This course aims to equip physiotherapists with the necessary insights, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate cultural complexities in sports settings and within physical activity environments and to promote equity and ethics in health care provision for athletes of all levels, ages and abilities.

The course provides a comprehensive overview of topics, such as cultural competence, diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports. It emphasises the importance of understanding the differences between cultures and how these differences can be used to create a more inclusive environment in sports and within the area of physical activity.

The course aims to deepen participants' understanding and appreciation of their own culture, values and world views, and of the diverse cultures within the sports and physical activity industry; to equip individuals with the skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with athletes and their families, coaches, staff and athlete support personnel from diverse cultural backgrounds; and to promote inclusivity and equality in sports, by embracing cultural diversity and respecting the values and traditions of all participants regardless of gender, race, sexuality, identity, disability and socio-economic status. By understanding and respecting cultural differences, sports physiotherapists can provide personalised and ethical care that considers the athlete's cultural beliefs, practices, and values, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of their health management.
