Vocational English (3cr)

Objective

The students are able to deepen and broaden their oral and written language skills supporting field-specific competence and are familiar with the cultural features of the target area, as well as their significance for international interaction. They are motivated to maintain and advance these language skills as part of their professional identity.

Content

Terminology and concepts of the field; presentations, e.g. product/company presentations; client contacts, counselling. Electronic communication, e.g. e-mail and phone; argumenting communication, e.g. comments, meetings and negotiations, problem situations and complaints; summaries, e.g. reports, memos.

Qualifications

The students are able to act independently in interaction situations crossing linguistic and cultural boundaries, as well as mastering the job application process in English. They can interpret and produce factual text related to their professional field, master its key concepts, and know how to process field-specific information.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Oral and written mastery of situations typical of the field. Writing a summary and/or e-mail message; phone conduct.
