Objective
The students will have basic knowledge of the Spanish language and culture, and they will be able to apply it in everyday life.
Content
Interaction in basic everyday situations, e.g. greetings, introducing oneself and others, languages and countries, family, calendar, time, interests, restaurant and opinions. The central grammar deals with verb conjugation in present tense.

5 (Excellent) The students can effortlessly understand speech on familiar topics spoken at normal speed. They are also able to understand texts on familiar topics. They are able to speak and write on familiar themes in a natural way. Pronunciation is clear. The students understand typical features of the Spanish and Hispanic culture and can act accordingly.
4 (Very Good) The students can understand face-to-face speech of simple topics when standard Spanish is used, but rapid speech may cause some difficulties. They can effortlessly understand texts on familiar topics. The students are able to write brief messages and apply relevant features of formal and informal language. Pronunciation is quite clear.
3 (Good) The students can fairly effortlessly understand texts dealing with familiar themes. Standard spoken Spanish may cause difficulties when the stretch of speech is long. The students are able to write simple messages. The deficiencies in pronunciation do not disturb the message delivery.
2 (Satisfactory) The students can understand clear and slow speech dealing with familiar topics. They can understand simple, brief texts and find the main points in texts related to familiar themes. The students are able to write brief and simple messages on familiar topics. They can manage with routine speaking situations although there may be some basic problems also with the pronunciation.
1 (Sufficient) The students can understand basic expressions of a slowly-spoken, standard Spanish. They can understand simple texts although with some difficulties. They are able to interact in Spanish in simple writing and speaking situations, but basic errors in the language are common.
If the student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course, the grade is 0 (Fail).
