Objective
The students are able to utilise information and communication technology in their work. They have a basic knowledge of the use of computers and the most common utility programmes, as well as of the basic structure of a computer. They can use online learning environments. They are familiar with copyrights and data security and their significance for data processing. The students have the skills needed for the completion of ECDL or computer driving licence A tests.
Content
The structure of computer and basic functions of an operating system. The central functions of a word processing programme, in particular, with respect to the writing of reports. The basic functions of a spreadsheet programme and their application. Introduction to the application of presentation graphic software and making a good presentation. The flexible use of online learning environments. The basic concepts of copyrights and their significance especially in electronic data processing. The significance of data security in IT based on networks. A short introduction of the ICT courses offered. Depending on the degree programme, the course may include hardware technology, Internet technology or other IT topics essential for the learning objectives of the field.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Assessment complies with the requirements for ECDL tests (http://www.ecdl.com > ECDL > Syllabus), complemented with the additional requirements of the degree programmes. Practical assignments and the exam are assessed. The prerequisite for receiving a grade for the course is a minimum of pass in each assessed component.
