Objective

The participants have deepened their knowledge of the philosophical starting points of qualitative research, its characteristics and approaches. They are able to collect qualitative data, process it and present the results. The students are able to discuss issues related to the ethics and reliability of qualitative research.

Content

Characteristics of qualitative research. Philosophical commitment: how does it affect methodological decisions. The position and role of researcher in qualitative research. Data collection methods: interview, observation, documents, etc. Data processing and analysis: content analysis, thematization, classification, discourse analysis, discussion analysis, continuous comparison. Presentation of results and conclusions. Truth and ethical questions. Different approaches: Ethnographic research, Grounded theory, phenomenological research, phenomenographic research, narrative research, action-based research.

Qualifications

The students choose the course in order to deepen their knowledge of qualitative research, usually after they have identified the approach of their thesis.
