Objective

The students deepen and broaden their vocabulary related to the operations and sectors of companies and the economy. They develop their German skills so as to be able to recognise and understand relevant information based on things read and heard, as well as to produce short oral and written reports on things read.
The students master in German the preparation of e.g. trade fairs, exhibitions, company visits, seminars and meetings, as well as the small-scale meetings, negotiations, organising and customer service situations preceding the events. They are able to interpret and produce small-scale visit schedules and invitations to meetings. They are also able to present products, tell about their qualities, and interpret product specifications.

Content

German newspaper and Internet articles on business operations and results; current texts on the economy of Finland and the German-speaking countries. Financial indicators, economic cycles and their numerical expressions, terminology and structures.
Participation in different events as customer or organiser. The preparations and negotiations related to these events, visits and trips, as well as customer service, product information, product demonstrations. Advertising and marketing terminology. Written and oral exercises in pairs.

Qualifications

Common European Framework of Reference, level A2/B1 (see the intranet / Language Centre).
