The importance of services is remarkable in post-industrial societies. However, manufacturing companies are the pillars of national economies. In a global world, management and understanding of production and supply chains are at the heart of the expertise of a logistics engineer. In whichever position you are working in a production and supply chain, you must have a solid understanding of the fundamentals and requirements of production.

In this course you will learn
- to know the impact of production planning and control on production management
- understand the entities and correlations of your decisions
- understand the potential of modern management methods as factor of a productivity
- apply the relationship between product structures, item control analysis and production planning for sales, production control, and inventory management
- look for possible suppliers and partnerships
- manage risks, make decisions and work in a group

After completing the course, you will have wide understanding of the terminology of the topics covered by the course and the links between them. You will get a wide perspective into the design requirements and implementation of production, and the impact of different production strategies on customer relationship management. You will gain understanding about financial management and learn to manage production from that perspective as well.

Teaching methods

Opintojakson toteutus on kahtiajakoinen: osaamisen tueksi käydään läpi tuotannon johtamiseen liittyviä keskeisiä käsitteitä ja ilmiöitä. Kontaktitunneilla on myös teemaan liittyviä pelejä, joiden avulla opitaan ymmärtämään tuotannon suunnittelun ja johtamisen merkitys ja menetelmiä. Toinen keskeinen kokonaisuus on opintojaksoon liittyvä laaja harjoitustyö, jossa suunnitellaan erillisen toimeksiannon mukaisesti tuotantoyrityksen keskeiset toiminnot ml. sen käynnistämiseen ja tuotannon johtamiseen liittyvä talouden hallinta teknisten valintojen ja päätösten lisäksi.

Opintojaksolla ei ole erillistä perinteistä tenttiä. Varsinainen arviointi perustuu projektiraporttiin ja opiskelijoiden opintojakson lopussa palauttamaan työmääräarviolomakkeeseen, jossa on sekä itsearviokenttä että yleiset arviointikriteerit lueteltuna arvion tueksi.

Student workload

Opintojakson laskennallinen kuormitus on 135h. Kirjallisuus ja luentomateriaali on tarkoitettu sekä uuden oppimiseen että sen soveltamiseen harjoitustyön tukena. Harjoitustyötä tehdään kurssin puolivälistä alkaen myös kontaktitunneilla, jolloin opettajan rooli muuttuu konsultoivaksi. Opiskelijat vastaavat toiminnastaan projektiryhmälleen, mikä edistää tiimityöskentelyn osaamisvalmiuksia.

Opintojakso on aluksi teoriapainotteinen, minkä jälkeen keskitytään harjoitustyön tekemiseen projektiryhmittäin tietokoneluokassa. Erikseen sovitaan kokoonpanolabra, joka toteutetaan ryhmittäin. Loppuesitykset pidetään ryhmittäin erillisen aikataulun mukaisesti. Esityksiin osallistuvat kaikki, sekä esittävä ryhmä että muut opiskelijat.

Teaching methods

This course consists of two sections: during the first half of the course we are concentrating on Production Logistics theory and on the second half students are working in teams on a demanding project work, which would be a business case on Production field. Furthermore, Production related games will be played during lessons.

Teaching methods

Opintojakson toteutus on kahtiajakoinen: osaamisen tueksi käydään läpi tuotannon johtamiseen liittyviä keskeisiä käsitteitä ja ilmiöitä. Kontaktitunneilla on myös teemaan liittyviä pelejä, joiden avulla opitaan ymmärtämään tuotannon suunnittelun ja johtamisen merkitys ja menetelmiä. Toinen keskeinen kokonaisuus on opintojaksoon liittyvä laaja harjoitustyö, jossa suunnitellaan erillisen toimeksiannon mukaisesti tuotantoyrityksen keskeiset toiminnot ml. sen käynnistämiseen ja tuotannon johtamiseen liittyvä talouden hallinta teknisten valintojen ja päätösten lisäksi.

Opintojaksolla ei ole erillistä perinteistä tenttiä. Varsinainen arviointi perustuu projektiraporttiin ja opiskelijoiden opintojakson lopussa palauttamaan työmääräarviolomakkeeseen, jossa on sekä itsearviokenttä että yleiset arviointikriteerit lueteltuna arvion tueksi.

Opintojakson toteutus perustuu merkittävissä määrin harjoitustyön tekemiseen ryhmätyönä. Muulla tavoin toteutettuna opintojakson tuottama osaaminen todennäköisesti jäisi vaillinaiseksi.

Student workload

Opintojakson laskennallinen kuormitus on 135h. Kirjallisuus ja luentomateriaali on tarkoitettu sekä uuden oppimiseen että sen soveltamiseen harjoitustyön tukena. Harjoitustyötä tehdään kurssin puolivälistä alkaen myös kontaktitunneilla, jolloin opettajan rooli muuttuu konsultoivaksi. Opiskelijat vastaavat toiminnastaan projektiryhmälleen, mikä edistää tiimityöskentelyn osaamisvalmiuksia.

Content scheduling

Opintojakso on aluksi teoriapainotteinen, minkä jälkeen keskitytään harjoitustyön tekemiseen projektiryhmittäin tietokoneluokassa. Erikseen sovitaan kokoonpanolabra, joka toteutetaan ryhmittäin. Loppuesitykset pidetään ryhmittäin erillisen aikataulun mukaisesti. Esityksiin osallistuvat kaikki, sekä esittävä ryhmä että muut opiskelijat.
