Key learning outcomes

A graduate of the Degree Program in Professional Project Management has extensive knowledge in project management and is able to utilize project management methods and tools. He understands the importance of people to the success of a project and can lead people as a superior, project manager, and project portfolio manager taking into account the company's strategy. The person can apply the acquired skills in multidisciplinary projects in different roles and changing operating environments.

The development, leadership, and interaction skills acquired during your studies create the capacity to work in diverse networks and multidisciplinary teams. The programme provides a good foundation for project management certifications.

The graduate has the skills to pursue continuous learning, creative problem solving and career development. He operates an ethical manner and supporting sustainable development.

Education content and professional growth and know-how

The studies consist of common courses at JAMK Master School of Management, expert studies of the degree programme and complementary studies that support the student's learning and career goals. The thesis focuses on expert core competence. The structure of the studies, 60 ECTS is as follows:

Flexible studies

The studies are carried out as contact or online studies and students can choose the option that suits them best. Both options include, for example, independent and team-based studies, lectures, presentations, and seminars.

In accordance with the principle of recognition and confession of competences, a student can make it visible what he already knows and applies for recognition on the basis of his competence and expertise (see Rule 17 of the Degree Regulations). One may have gained knowledge and skills before degree studies, or one can acquire skills during one’s studies in many different way, for example by studying at another university, work, project or volunteering.

For complementary competency in the degree program, a student may choose courses in master’s degree programmes at JAMK or study at EduFutura, the Startup Factory, Future Factory or CampusOnline where one can select courses from another university of applied sciences free of charge and include these studies in one’s degree.

Higher level studies completed elsewhere may be accredited as part of your degree. The student must have a certificate or some other document to prove that they have completed the studies. Skills acquired elsewhere can also be described and demonstrated to enable accreditation. Further information is available in the Study Guide.

Working life oriented learning

The learning tasks included in the courses can and are recommended to be adapted to one’s own work and work community. Many work community development activities can also be brought as learning exercises and projects to be designed, refined, and solved during one’s studies.

It is possible to build a unique personal study path via studification and using extensively courses belonging Master's degree programmes at JAMK.

Master's thesis is generally a development project in working life.

Career opportunities and employment

The Degree Program in Project Management is intended for individuals in a variety of fields who wish to broaden their capabilities in project planning, management and leadership roles. The aim of the studies is to deepen their knowledge in different areas of project management. The graduate can work as a professional project developer in demanding expert and managerial positions like project manager, project portfolio manager or director.

Developing as a project management expert opens new and challenging positions, and an opportunity to get on one’s career. The student will deepen his leadership and communication skills as well as networking skills in different roles in projects and various roles within the organization. As a postgraduate, you can work as an organizational developer and active producer of new knowledge and skills.

During the studies one can network with experts from different fields and organizations.

Studies provide a good foundation for project management certifications.

Further studies

The graduate may apply to continue on to postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37) and in the school of professional teacher education. Studies can be continued by applying for corresponding post-degree education at universities abroad, for example. A university of applied sciences also provides opportunities for continuing education in the form of specialisation studies, open studies, an online study portal (CampusOnline) and working life based continuing education.

Education planning

The planning phase of the degree programme has involved working life representatives and experts from various fields and industries as well as lectures, experts and students at JAMK. The planning of the goals and content of the degree programme are based on knowledge of current and future know-how and skills through research and working life. JAMK Industrial Engineering department’s Advisory boards, which include a group of experts and managers from different companies, regularly participate in the planning process. Education is developed on the basis of continuous feedback from students and graduates.
