Key learning outcomes

The student acquires the knowledge, skills and capabilities to develop their own competence and the organisation they represent in lifecycle management. The student gets acquainted with the lifecycle stages of a product or service, including planning, product development, procurement and maintenance. They are able to reconcile the business and technical requirements of the service provider, buyer and user. They learn lifecycle management development methods and are able to apply them in their own field. The education enables the student to manage the lifecycle management of their organisation through knowledge and its analysis.

Education content and professional growth and know-how

Lifecycle Management is a multidisciplinary degree programme. Its scope is 60 cr. The studies consist of management and development studies and core studies that enhance lifecycle expertise. Their purpose is to create background for the master's thesis, the scope of which, 30 cr, makes up half of the studies. In the master’s thesis, the student will apply their expertise to resolve a working life orientated research or development problem.

Flexible studies

The studies are offered in the form of part-time online studies, with online teaching primarily taking place on weekday afternoons or Saturdays. The studies include 2-4 classroom days per month, between which the students will pursue their studies independently.

The student’s previously acquired competence will be taken into account in their personal learning plan.

Students have a choice of alternative or elective studies offered by partner universities in Finland and abroad, such as other universities of applied sciences (CampusOnline), universities and educational institutions involved in the EduFutura collaboration (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia). Higher level studies completed elsewhere may be accredited as part of your degree. The student must have a certificate or some other document to prove that they have completed the studies. Skills acquired elsewhere can also be described and demonstrated to enable accreditation. Further information is available on the web pages for students.

Working life oriented learning

The learning and development tasks related to the studies will be integrated with working life. The competencies and expertise of the group members will be utilised in the learning to the benefit of the entire group via active interaction. Visiting lectures given by working life representatives provide an apt overview of working life topics of current interest to serve as a starting point for discussion.

Career opportunities and employment

The Degree Programme in Lifecycle Management is designed for those who want to broaden their capabilities to work in managerial, planning or development roles in their respective fields. The objective of the studies is to deepen competence in the different areas of lifecycle management and to establish the skills required for working in development tasks that require special expertise.

Qualifications

There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.

Further studies

The graduate may apply to continue on to postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37) and in the school of professional teacher education. Studies can be continued by applying for corresponding post-degree education at universities abroad, for example. A university of applied sciences also provides opportunities for continuing education in the form of specialisation studies, open studies, an online study portal (CampusOnline) and working life based continuing education.

Education planning

Working-life representatives, JAMK’s specialists and master’s degree students from various fields have been involved in the planning and development of the degree programme. The programme is constantly developed based on the continuing feedback from students active in working life.
