Objective

The integration of automation and production control systems requires that automation engineers have knowledge of factory local area networks and databases. Upon completion of the course, the students know the general structure of factory local area network, subnetworks and network device components, and can optimally design the structure of the network. They understand the features of database servers and their connection to the network structure.

Content

The students are familiarized with the following topics:
- the general structure of factory local area networks and subnetworks
- reading of data in an automation system
- the components of the network and their features: routers, couplers, cables, optical fibres, determination of speed
- diagnostics of Ethernet network
- server connection and server check (doubling)
- server programmes and databases in general
- database structure and configuration at a general level (Oracle, MS SQL Server)
- user interfaces for end users at a general level

The degree of Bachelor of Engineering

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment of distance assignments and laboratory assignments:
Excellent (5): 90%
Good (3-4): 75%
Satisfactory (1-2): 50%
