Objective

The students perceive research as part of professional expertise. They are able to identify and define meaningful development targets and questions in their field and in their own activities. They know different approaches to and strategies of R&D. They perceive the background hypotheses of research work, the stages of the research process, and the alternatives of data collection.
The students know the ethical principles of R&D.
They master data acquisition methods and the process. They can find data in general and field-specific information sources, process and critically evaluate the collected data, as well as being able to perceive wholes. They can apply existing field-specific data to investigative and development-oriented activities.
The students can produce a clear, well-structured report in formal style. They know the characteristics of investigative writing and the structure and writing practices of the bachelor’s thesis report.
They can apply the professional knowledge and skills acquired in the degree programme, implement an extensive project-form assignment, and present the implementation of the project orally and in writing.

Content

The bachelor’s thesis process, the requirements set for the thesis, and characteristics of investigative writing. Research data acquisition as part of information literacy. Scientific activity and thinking, the application of research data as part of professional competence. Field-specific information sources. The principles of professional ethics. The structure and writing practices of a thesis report. Further development of writing skills.
The exact contents are determined individually for each thesis. The objective is that theses are projects assigned by companies or organizations.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment of planning and development competencies related to the implementation of the thesis, mastery of the thesis process, a written document on the thesis and its oral presentation.
