Objective

The students know network protocols, standards and LAN components, and are able to apply them to practice. They are able to design a LAN and its connections with WAN for special purposes.

Content

The key topics include network documentation, Ethernet switching techniques, switches, routers, and fire wall technologies, 802.1Q, 802.1P, 802.1D, VLAN, ARP, DHCP, DNS, IP, redundant network protocols, TCP/UDP, application protocols.

Qualifications

The OSI model. Basics of data networks, hardware and concepts. The basics of IP subrouting and LAN coupling. The basics of data network technology, routing technology and coupling technology. Basic configuration of couplers and routers.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent 5: The student has a comprehensive overall view of the network technologies and services used in enterprises and he (she) can independently apply his (hers) knowledge to realize network services for enterprises or organisations.
Very good 4: The student has a clear overall view of the network technologies and services used in enterprises and he (she) can independently apply his (hers) knowledge to realize network services for enterprises or organisations.
Good 3: The student masters the basics of network technologies and he (she) can apply these for the needs of SMEs and organisations.
Satisfactory 2: The student knows the basics of enterprise level network technologies and simple applications.
Sufficient 1: The student knows the basics of enterprise level network technologies.
