Objective

The students understand the technological requirements of the implementation of network services and the significance of different server software as the environment of network services.
They master the technological implementation of diverse network services, particularly for the WWW environment.

Content

1) Network operating systems
Installation of a network operating system (Linux, Windows) in the network environment, basic use, installing software,
management of users, user groups and access rights, shared resources. Data security and remote control of an operating system. Definition and management of network services, authentication services, authentication interfaces, e.g. LDAP.
2) WWW servers
WWW server management: basic functions, optional features, SSL encryption
3) Database servers
Management of database management systems, integrating them into network services
4) Application servers
Utilization of the commercial and free offering of applications,
SOA – service-oriented architecture

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent 5: Student has a versatile mastering of WWW server environment and he (she) can realize demanding server applications, and he (she) masters the data security needed in network services.
Very good 4: Student has a versatile mastering of WWW server environment and he (she) can realize demanding server applications. He (she) knows the data security needed in network services.
Good 3: Student masters WWW server environment and he (she) can realize server applications. He (she) knows the basics of data security.
Satisfactory 2: The student can set up a WWW server and install applications in a server environment. He (she) knows the basics of data security.
Sufficient 1: The student can set up a WWW server and install applications in a server environment. . He (she) knows the rudiments of data security.
