Objective

The students know and master the essential concepts, contents and natural laws related to kinematics, dynamics and statics and by using mathematics can apply them to study modules of the degree programme studied later.

Content

SI unit system, transformation of units, magnitude calculation, constant velocity motion, motion with constant acceleration, vertical trajectory, oblique trajectory, Newton’s laws, friction, mechanical work, power, efficiency, energy, momentum, impulse, basic concepts of rotary motion and the elements of statics.

Qualifications

Handling powers and roots, reducing expressions, applying the trigonometry of right and oblique angles, calculating with vectors, solving first and second order polynomal equations and root equations , pairs of equations and sets of equations.
The concept of a function, the basics of differential and integral calculus.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student can apply the basic equations of mechanics in a creative manner and by using them is able to solve different kinds of problems related to kinematics, dynamics and statics.
Good (3): The student is familiar with the theories of kinematics, dynamics and statics. When applying the theory there are minor deficiencies.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student's mastery of the learning objectives of the course is inadequate and the knowledge of the subject is fragmentary.
