Objective
The students understand the structures of the machines and equipment of paper- and board manufacture lines and also their significance in papermaking. They understand the know-how of the properties of paper and board from the point of view of the machine structure and they learn to know the machine drafts of the most common paper types.
In addition, the students master the papermaking terminology of the area in English and they can use it in different situations required by the profession.
Content
The structure groups of a papermaking line from pulp treatment systems to reel packaging.
The assignments, seminars and assignment supervisions are done in English.
Qualifications
The students understand the concepts of fiber, structure of paper and web, and they know the raw materials, ingredients and fillers used in paper making and they know also the basics of the production processes of fiber raw materials and the quality requirements set on paper by the end use. The students are able to identify different paper and board types.
In addition, the students master the central terminology of the area in English.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Very good (4-5): The student masters well different types of paper and board manufacture lines, is familiar with the overall structures of them and with the differences between various paper grade lines and also understands the functions of different sub-processes.
Good (3): The student masters the paper and board manufacture lines, is familiar with their overall structures and knows the functions of different sub-processes.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student is familiar with the paper and board manufacture lines and understands satisfactorily the sub-processes and their functions.
