Objective

The students understand the concepts of fiber, structure of paper and web, and they know the raw materials, ingredients and fillers used in paper making and they know also the basics of the production processes of fiber raw materials and the quality requirements set on paper by the end use. The students are able to identify different paper and board types.
In addition, the students master the central terminology of the area in English.

Content

Production of mechanical, chemical and deinked pulp, pulp treatment, main processes of a paper machine, paper- and board types, fillers and ingredients, requirements of the end use of paper, and also the central terminology of paper making in English.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Very good (4-5): The student masters well different types of pulp and paper manufacture environments and is familiar with their sub-processes and their functions.
Good (3): The student masters different types of pulp and paper manufacture environments in general and can specify different sub-processes but understands insufficiently their functions.
Satisfactory (1-2): The student knows different types of pulp and paper manufacture environments but has difficulties in understanding different sub-processes and their purposes.
