Objective

The students know the materials used in brick structures. They are able to plan brick structures.
The students know the significance of heating, plumbing and ventilation engineering in building, and relevant devices and their mounting.
The students know the frame systems of buildings, the principles of their functions and frame strutting, frame loads, use of NR structures, regulations on structural sound insulation and their application, regulations and guidelines on population shelters (‘S1’ and ‘K’) and lift shafts. The students know the coordinate and altitude systems used in Finland, as well as central map materials, and can apply geodetic calculations to construction measurement.
The students will be introduced to the stages of the life cycle of buildings and structures from design to recycling.
The students advance their English skills and cultural competencies required in field-specific (service production and management) expert tasks, know how to find and apply professional data in the target language, and are motivated to develop their language skills.

Content

heating, plumbing and ventilation systems in the energy economy and as factors affecting indoor air; the heating systems, water and sewer systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems of buildings, and their installation.
Frame systems of buildings, NR structures, structural sound insulation. Class S1 and K-1 population shelters, lift shafts.
Concepts of the field; presentations, e.g. product/company presentations; client contacts, counselling. Electronic communication, e.g. e-mail and phone; argumenting communication, e.g. comments, meetings and negotiations, problem situations and complaints; summaries, e.g. reports, memos. Knowledge of culture; data acquisition.
