Objective

The students know the significance of energy and non-food plants, as well as of their breeding and use, in the EU and globally. They can assess the profitability of plant cultivation. They are familiar with the cultivation and breeding techniques of their chosen plant group. They can apply the research data on energy and non-food plants to practice.

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Inexperienced performer (1-2)
• knows the cultivation technique and breeding possibilities of the main plants
• knows the main energy plants and non-food plants
• knows information sources in the field
Developing performer (3-4)
In addition to the aforementioned:
• is able to estimate the cultivation and utilization potential of plants in Finland
• knows alternative ways of upgrading the crops
• is familiar with the present state of research in the field
• is able to acquire information and compare its applicability

Competent performer (5)
In addition to the aforementioned:
• can estimate the profitability of energy and non-food plant cultivation and the development of the market situation, as compared to other plants
• can apply research data to practice and development activities
