Objective
The students know the principles of sustainable development and the key concepts related to environmental protection and nature conservation. They know the objectives of environmental policy in Finland and the EU, as well as the principles of environmental legislation, and are able to apply legal norms to their own work. They can make an application for an environmental permit. They are familiar with the structure and operation of environmental organizations and systems.

The concept and history of environmental protection, nature conservation, sustainable development and use of natural resources, environmental law, environmental organizations, environmental systems
Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Inexperienced performer (1-2)
o knows the key concepts and organizations of environmental protection
o knows the basics of environmental policy and legislation
o is familiar with environmental systems
o knows the environmental permit procedure and the assessment of environmental impacts
Developing performer (3-4)
In addition to the aforementioned:
o can interpret environmental legislation
o can make an environmental permit application for a small or medium-sized unit
Competent performer (5)
In addition to the aforementioned:
o knows the principles of EU environmental policy
o can apply environmental legislation and the decisions of environmental administration to the activities of the field
o knows the significance of environmental systems for the operation of an enterprise
