Individual`s Relationship with the EnvironmentLaajuus (5 cr)

Objective

The students know the basics of environmental psychology and the factors determining the formation of attitudes towards the environment. They realize their own opportunities to influence the condition of the environment and master the basics of environmental communication. The students are aware of the worst environmental problems and know the means to prevent them. They know the significance of clean food, air and water for health and wellbeing, and are able to estimate environmental risks.

Content

Environmental sociology and psychology, environmental attitudes, environmental movements and their goals; the health risks associated with food, water, air and soil; risk analysis, the chemicalization of the environment, waste management, environmental communication

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Inexperienced performer (1, 2)
o knows the main impacts of the environment on health and wellbeing as well as the principal routes of exposure to health threats
o can take environmental attitudes into account
o knows the methods of environmental communication

Developing performer (3, 4)
In addition to the aforementioned:
o can prevent the main environmental threats to man
o masters efficient environmental communication, with an eye on the target group

Competent performer (5)
In addition to the aforementioned
o can apply the principles of risk analysis
o can independently plan and implement environmental communication
