Basic and professional studies of one's own field

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The text has a heading, which the content must correspond to. The text is scientific in nature and written in academic style: the writer defines the concepts, argues and proportions his/her knowledge against further information. The text can be understood without knowing the thesis.

The role of the writer is clearly visible in the text, and an outside reader understands the relationship between source texts and the writer’s own thinking in the text.

The text entity is written in essay form and its composition is harmonious. It is logically organized and its division into paragraphs reflects the organization principle. Expression is cohesive and references precise. Cohesion devices are used variably.

The text is written in interesting factual style: vocabulary is variable but precise, and sentence and clause structure is coherent and variable. The relations between clauses are appropriately marked. Word order is natural and unambiguous. The language complies with linguistic norms, recommendations and common principles.

The paper can be graded a fail if it contains serious, recurrent inaccuracies in one of the aforementioned areas, or if it contains many different errors.
