Objective

The students master the clinical examination of a patient and assessment of patient needs, and they are able to distinguish pathological changes in vital functions from normal ones.

Content

Anamnesis and preliminary information.
Examining the heart and circulation system, examination of lungs and upper respiratory tracks.
Ear and eye examination.
Examination of the abdominal area.
Basic neurological and psychiatric status. Basics of examining the musculoskeletal system.
Initial assessment of the urgency of treatment, continuous monitoring and referral to treatment.
Assessing treatment needs using various communication channels.

Qualifications

The students master basic knowledge, key concepts and methods of social and health care sector customer relationships and setting as well as goals and methods of guidance, health promotion and preventive nursing, and they are familiar with the basic premises of evidence-based decision-making.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass (S):
The student:
Is able to assess the need for treatment based on preliminary data given by the patient and adequate examinations.
Master the physical examination of a patient and the safe use of associated implements following pre-agreed criteria.
Can draw the necessary conclusions and plan further treatment within the limits of their area of responsibility.
