Objective

The students are familiar with public health nursing and its competence requirements, and they are able to assess their own competence in terms of these and to draw up a career plan to develop their competence. They are familiar with the development of public health nursing and the relevant legislation. They internalise the ethics and values of public health nursing. They are familiar with social and cultural factors and changes in society that influence the well-being of the individual, the family and the community, and understand their significance in public health nursing. The students internalise the role of the public health nurse in health-promotion and as an expert and developer of public health work. They understand the significance of promoting environmental health as part of citizens’ well-being.

Qualifications

The students master the key concepts and methods related to public health problems, family nursing and social and health care sector customer relationships and setting as well as goals and methods of health promotion and preventive nursing, and they are familiar with the basics of evidence-based decision-making.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass
The student:
Becomes motivated to develop professional competence as public health nurses and experts of health promotion and public health work.
Reflects on ethical, social and cultural issues that come up in public health nursing.
Has good interaction skills.
Demonstrates good standards of knowledge and skills, and improving written and oral skills and competence demonstrated in practical situations. Is able to examine own actions critically and instructively.
Have positive attitudes towards their work and working/study environment, the customers and developing their competence.
Understands the significance of developing their competence for the customers and their future work as public health nurses.
