Objective

In his/her area of expertise, the student is able to
• plan and evaluate health promotion activities based on international, national, regional and organizational strategies, programmes, recommendations, and policy plans
• plan, implement and evaluate health-promoting group interventions
• provide guidance, using different health counselling methods
• apply the knowledge base of health promotion to his/her area of expertise in project work

Content

Topical questions and the focal points of health promotion within the various expertise areas of nursing.
Health promotion networks (WHO networks, e.g. health-promoting hospital, healthy municipality, healthy schools, healthy workplaces, the role of associations and the 3rd sector in health promotion)
Basics of group guidance and health education, innovative guidance methods. Effectiveness and evaluation methods of health promotion.

Qualifications

The student knows the national and international programmes and recommendations governing health promotion, their focal areas, health promotion settings, strategies and levels. S/he understands the significance of preventive nursing and lifestyle counselling for the prevention of public health problems. S/he can plan, implement and evaluate empowerment based health education.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass (S): The student has good knowledge of health promotion and group counseling and a critical understanding of the theories and operating principles of the field. The student is able to form personal knowledge based on the evidence-based knowledge base of health promotion planning and group counseling. The student is able to apply acquired information in a versatile manner to complete learning assignments in cooperation with others. The student is able to act skilfully, in a customer-oriented manner and taking cultural differences into consideration in different kinds of teams. The student is able to analytically assess both his/her own and the competence and development of the team.
Fail (0): The student has no knowledge of health promotion and group counseling. The student is not able to form personal knowledge based on the evidence-based knowledge base of health promotion planning and group counseling. The ability to assess his/her own development is minor. The student cannot meet the requirements of professional assignments and projects.
